Ray Kurzweil does stuff like this but forgets to put his tongue in his cheek. I've just read Steve Harris's chapter 'A million years of evolution' in Damien Broderick's anthology 'Year Million' - which is a super-futurist sort of text. So having contemplated humanity as an ethereal, deuterium powered, thought cloud, can just about handle bespoke humanoids a la SD card. The GOD WAS HERE watermark/designer genome angle is cool - just don't share that with the I.D. crowd - at least not till I rationalise it. Anyhow - great out the box thought experiments. Can't help thinking old Homo-sapiens needs to abandon his box and engage with this stuff before we discover what really matters.
