[Update 5/11/09: Thanks to everyone who voted/commented on the 2020 Science layout. This was extremely helpful. In the tradition of scientists the world-over, I listened to the feedback carefully... then did my own thing! Actually, the new layout builds on the poll and comments, but I ended up sticking with the three column format. If it doesn't work for you, or could work better - let me know!]
I’m playing around with some tweaks to the 2020 Science blog layout, and would really appreciate some feedback on which of the following iterations works better – you can tell it’s a lazy Sunday, and I have nothing better to do!
If you have a minute or two to spare, please take a look at the four layouts below, and vote for your preferred one.
And if you have any other comments or suggestions on formatting/layout that would make the site work better for you, please do let me know in the comments space.
Thanks!

I’m not a fan of three-column layouts, so you see my bias already. I like #3, especially if it’s easy for you to switch the image from time to time.
I like the original
Columns wide enough to be easy to read but not too wide.
Image OK if it is relevant
Thanks Dave and Suzi.
Having lived with the three column layout for a few months, I was getting the feeling that it was a little cluttered, with not enough emphasis on the blog text itself. Think my preferences are with #3 also at the moment, but we’ll see what others think.
The 2-col option 3 is cleaner. I’m planning to go the same way with mine – which has organically ‘evolved’ (to be kind to myself). Also engaging with Dreamweaver for a major overhaul of my entry ‘home page’ (which most folk don’t even know exists). 2020S has a professional, focused feel. Will watch with interest.
Although I’d already voted, I forgot to say how hard it is to decide on design elements without seeing them side-by-side – scrolling down doesn’t quite cut it. But then I knew you’d do your own thing ultimately anyway. Because you always do.
Ah, but at least I listened, before doing my own thing
Actually, the votes and comments were very helpful, even though the top-bottom layouts were tough to compare.
