When writing Films from the Future, I wanted it to be engaging and accessible for a broad audience. But I also wanted to it be useful as a teaching resource – a text book for the sort of course where you get to watch movies and have interesting discussions.
It’s probably no surprise therefore that the book is already forming the backbone of an undergraduate course I teach at Arizona State University on emerging technologies and responsible and ethical innovation. The same structure that makes it ideal for undergrads though, also makes it perfect for an extremely engaging book club – one where you not only read a book together, but you get to watch films as well!
Realizing this, I’ve developed a simple guide for book clubs to use with the book – including seed questions for discussions.
The guide is just that – something to inspire and provide guidance, but also something to be adapted and extended for different circumstances. as a result, it’s the perfect starting point for everything from a casual weekly get-together, to a more serious work-based book club, were you’re reading to develop useful new insights.
